Step 5The headers and footers can be of great value to communicate to the
affiliate important things. While you can enter the terms in the box shown in step
1, it is important to highlight the most critical of the terms, and explain how the terms
will be enforced using the header. You can also place a link to a static html page
of yours with additional information or banners since Merchant allows you only one banner
and one text link. You can also reiterate or link to your privacy policy, or
highlight special discounts for the affiliates themselves. If you want to offer a
discount coupon, you can place it in the header and tell the affiliate to shop at your
store and get that discount.

Step 6
| MMUI affiliate login lets you edit
the text that appears on the top of the category tree. The "Affiliate Login
Link" is what EVERYONE will see as the get to your store. |

|
| It will show as a
hyperlink saying affiliate login and links to the page that will login existing affiliates
or create new affiliate accounts. Needless to say that the placement is rather tacky
for a well designed store, as you do not want one of the first things to greet your
shoppers is an affiliate login! Merchant will not allow you to just remove the text
though... or so it thinks :o) |
Simply remove the text next to the "Affiliate
Login Link" then put a space. if you do not put the
space it will not allow you to update leaving it blank, it will update with the
space. Don't worry about the space showing in the store front as a blue hyperlink
link of one space, it magically gets "gobbled" up so nothing shows in the
storefront, and if you highlight the content of the box you just put a space in you will
find nothing. Cool!

Now we suggest you have a link from your store somewhere in
the footer of your pages, the global footer for example. We suggest you link that to
a static page that describes your standards, terms, selectivity... etc. This way if
your customers are curious about who you affiliate with they can see how selective you are
and the standards you have. You then link the static page to the default affiliate
login screen: http://YourSite.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?
Screen=AFCL&Store_Code=YourStore
It would be nice if you suggest in the "Affiliate Login Header"
that your affiliates bookmark the page for future visits since this will save them
from having to click on the link in the global footer, go to the static page, then click
to the login page from there.
"The affiliate Account Link" is what the
affiliate will see at the top of the category tree after he logs in. It is
convenient as it lets him access his affiliate page later, edit the information, and/or
logout. We suggest you change the default wording though to something shorter, or
put a <BR> half way in the default sentence since the length of the text will make
the category tree too wide and it won't look nice. We suggest the following text:
Edit/Logout %affiliate_login%
You can use the affiliate's site as a
"tokens"/variable to display instead of the login variable, but the login is
usually shorter and much more personable.
